Privacy
This page explains what the site collects, why, how long it is kept, and how you can refuse. In one sentence: the site has no accounts, forms or ads today; the only thing that sets cookies is Google Analytics 4, and for visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it loads only after you click "Accept".
Effective 2026-11-02. The data controller is the site owner (pen name Hugozen), an individual, not a company. The Chinese version at /privacy/ is the original; this page says the same thing in English.
What the site does not collect
- There are no accounts, logins, comments, guestbooks, contact forms, newsletters or uploads, so the site collects no names, email addresses, phone numbers or anything you write.
- There are currently no ads, ad networks, retargeting pixels, social plugins, session recording or heatmap tools. If any are added later, this page will be updated first.
- No profiling, and no selling, renting or exchanging of visit data for marketing.
Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC)
The site uses Google Analytics 4 to see which articles are read and where readers come from. The service is provided by Google LLC (USA); the measurement ID is G-0MZL78VNWY.
- What is collected: page path, source and referrer, approximate location (city level), browser and device type, language, and a randomly generated client identifier; Google also receives your IP address. The site sends no custom events or custom parameters to GA, only the automatic
page_view. - Cookies: after consent,
_gaand_ga_<container ID>are set to recognise returning visits, with a default lifetime of up to 2 years. The site sets no other analytics cookies. - Retention: event data 2 months, user data 14 months, reset on new activity (the current settings of the GA4 property, not an estimate).
- Purpose and basis: reading statistics only. For visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland the basis is your consent; elsewhere it is the site owner's legitimate interest in understanding readership.
- Recipients: Google LLC and its affiliates, under their own terms (Google's privacy policy and the GA data processing terms). The site does not use GA advertising features; the ad-personalisation signals are always set to denied.
Consent and withdrawing it
The site uses Google Consent Mode v2. Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland see a notice at the bottom of the page on their first visit. Until you click "Accept", the Google Analytics script is not even downloaded, so no request goes to Google and the page runs with "denied" as the default. Clicking "Decline" keeps analytics off and clears any existing analytics cookies.
You can change your choice at any time with "Cookie settings" in the footer, delete this site's cookies in your browser, turn on "Do Not Track", or install Google's Analytics opt-out add-on. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that took place before.
Hosting and server logs (Cloudflare, Inc.)
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, and DNS and CDN are also provided by Cloudflare, Inc. (USA). To deliver pages to your browser and defend against attacks, Cloudflare processes request metadata such as your IP address, the requested URL and your User-Agent, and keeps it under its own retention policy. The site keeps no additional access logs and has no server of its own.
Fonts (Google LLC)
Pages load Noto Serif SC and Source Serif from Google Fonts: your browser requests font files directly from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com, which exposes your IP address and User-Agent to Google and may include the referring page address. This is unrelated to analytics and does not depend on your consent; the site has not moved these fonts to local hosting.
Embedded third-party content
2 older posts embed original videos (YouTube(Google LLC), TED). Those platforms receive your request, and may set their own cookies, only if you open one of those posts and the video loads. The site does not control those cookies; please see each platform's policy. The affected posts are in the Chinese-only archive.
Your rights
If you have rights under the GDPR or similar laws, you can ask to access, correct or delete data the site holds about you, ask to restrict or object to processing, ask for portability, or withdraw consent at any time; you can also complain to your local data protection authority. The site itself holds only anonymous aggregate statistics. Identifiable data sits in Google Analytics, so requests go to Google, or the site owner can submit a deletion request on your behalf.
Children
The site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect children's personal data (it has no forms that collect personal data at all).
Free to read, and about money
Articles are free to read. There is currently no checkout, paywall, tip jar, affiliate link or advertising on the site. The owner practises monetizing indie sites, and the site may later offer products, services or consulting; if it does, they will be clearly labelled and this page will be updated before any new data collection starts.
Changes
If this page changes, the effective date at the top will be updated; there is no separate notice beyond the RSS feed. Current version: 2026-11-02.
Contact
This site currently has no public contact address: there are no accounts, forms or subscriptions, and the mailbox for the domain has not been published. The owner has chosen not to publish a contact address, so this page can only explain how the site handles data and cannot promise a reply. To follow new posts, subscribe to the RSS feed.
